“Intensive manufacturing, and particularly the motorcar industry in the Midlands, has been a constant presence in my family’s working history, and as such, it is something that has always intrigued me.

My work, at Longbridge motor works in Birmingham began in late 2004 whilst the majority of the motor works were still operational, with the demise of MG Rover, and after successfully negotiating full access to the 500-acre site, the emphasis on the project changed. I started to make a comprehensive record of the spaces within the factory; many parts of it having remained untouched since the 6000+ staff were informed in 2005 that production would temporarily halt for a week, of course ultimately they would never return. As a result, over the ensuing months my intensive documentation has attempted to make sense of their absence.”
